It is a large plant that can grow as tall as 1 m. The flowers have a diameter of 8-12 cm. and have eight rounded petals. It flowers from mid to late spring. It is hardy up to -20°C. Plants from seed collected in the wild have pure yellow flowers, but specimens bred in nurseries often have a pink blush, which makes one suspect they are actually hybrids.
