Comments: This tree peony was discovered on Mount Hee Chan Men in Yunnan by Père Jean-Marie Delavay (1834-1895), a missionary and botanist who sent a very high number of dried plants to the Musée d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris. This species is endemic to China. It grows in spruce forests and at the edge of thickets at an altitude of 3,300 to 4,000 m. It flowers from late spring to early summer; the bright yellow flowers can be up to 7.5 cm. wide. It is hardy up to -15ºC.
