Comments: Orixa japonica is a medium-sized, loose-growing shrub, with leaves that emit a fragrant scent and fall off in winter. The small flowers are greenish and appear in May. It belongs to the rue family (Rutaceae). It is native to China, Korea and Japan, where it is called Ko-kusagi. Material of this plant was received by Von Siebold from Japan before 1856. Recent research has shown that this plant contains alkaloids that might combat the parasite that causes malaria.
